Mentors in Violence Prevention
Overview:
MVP is a program implemented at North that is based on a peer leadership model that targets not only potential perpetrators of violence and associated behaviors, but the role of the “bystander” to these behaviors. The model seeks to empower those who might otherwise be silent observers to situations where bullying and violence is unfolding.
Goals:
~ Raise Awareness
~ Challenge Thinking
~ Open Dialogue
~ Inspire Leadership
What do MVP mentors do at North?
~ Trained 11th and 12th grade student mentors will go into 9th grade PAWS rooms
~ There will be 2 mentors assigned to every PAWS group
~ Mentors will visit every other Monday in PAWS to discuss MVP goals, lessons and introduce them to different scenarios to help them think about how to react differently to situations and how to help.
