Advanced Course Options

High school students have opportunities to earn college credit and prepare for higher education while at Davenport Community Schools. Advanced Placement (AP) courses offer college-level curriculum and corresponding exams, potentially granting college credit based on exam performance. Eastern Iowa Community College provides concurrent enrollment programs, allowing students to take college courses and earn both high school and college credit simultaneously. These options are available to accelerate academic progress, reduce college costs, and enhance college applications for all students in the Davenport Schools. See the Course Guide for available classes and descriptions!

Advanced Placement (AP)

Advanced Placement (AP) courses are taught by DCSD teachers who have completed intensive professional development in the specific course with AP Teacher Training Institute at least every five years.

Students in AP courses have the option to take the corresponding AP Exam, which are offered on DCSD campuses during a two-week period in May. This calendar can be found here. More than 90% of colleges and universities in the United States and Canada have a policy granting incoming students course credit, placement, or both for qualifying AP exam scores. The individual college should be contacted for further information.

Current AP courses can be found in the most recent course guide.

Concurrent Enrollment Academy

The Concurrent Enrollment Academy, hosted at Davenport North High School, is available by application only for students who want to earn both their high school diploma and Associate of Arts degree from Eastern Iowa Community College.

Perspective students must apply in their 8th grade year - with the application due in December. Watch DCSD and Davenport North Social Media for links to the application or call your DCSD middle school counselor!
